Who is Allah
The best way to know about Allah, God in Arabic Language, is from Allah Himself. Allah told us in the Holy Quran a description about Himself in chapter 112:
We can learn from this verse a couple of things:
– He is Allah—One ˹and Indivisible˺: Meaning, He is the One, the Singular, Who has no peer, no assistant, no rival, no equal and none comparable to Him
– Allah—the Sustainer ˹needed by all˺: This means the One Who all of the creation depends upon for their needs and their requests and He does not need anyone or anything.
– He has never had offspring: Meaning, He does not have any child, parent or spouse. so we can’t accept that God had children or there are creation that can be referred to as son of God.
– nor was He born: Meaning, Allah was never born so He is the First and nothing was before Him. If we consider that He was born then we can no longer consider Allah as God since being born means that He is created from another creator, and this is not the case with Allah, the Creator.
– And there is none comparable to Him: Meaning, that there is no one in the entire universe, nor ever was, nor ever can be, who is similar to Allah, or equal in rank with Him, or resembling Him in His attributes, works and powers in any degree whatsoever.
Allah also explained in the Holy Quran his attributes and many verses throughout the Holy Quran and we have 99 names and attributes of Allah that helps us to understand who is Allah. See this link to learn about 99 names and attributes of Allah.
Insights
Looking into the description of Allah we can see that it negates the teachings of many other religions and belief systems. In this regard, we can define six groups according to their belief systems of the oneness of Allah:
– There is a group that denies the very existence of God [the atheists].
– Another group believes in the existence of God, but denies that His existence is ‘Necessary’.
– A third group believes in God’s existence and in His existence as ‘Necessary’ but denies His attributes of perfection.
– A fourth group believes in God’s Necessary Existence and in His attributes of perfection, but denies Oneness of God and believes in and worship more than one gods and goddesses, and thus practices polytheism.
– A fifth group ascribes children to Allah.
Conculsion
All these beliefe systems negates what this verse explained to us in the Quran, so we can conclude the God or Allah is One, needed by all and He doesn’t need anyone or anything, He doesn’t have children nor he was born and nothing before or will be comparable with Him as he is the perfect being in every attribute He has.
